Corning Museum of Glass

Brand Strategy

The Corning Museum of Glass, located in Corning, New York, is a not-for-profit museum dedicated to telling the story of a single material: glass. I was tasked with giving the museum a total rebrand, as the previous branding was not living up to all that the museum had to offer, and I was inspired to create a brand that was better able to communicate what The Corning Museum of Glass was really all about.

The Challenge

The biggest challenge I faced while redesigning the brand of the Corning Museum of Glass was coming up with a concept that captured the true art, beauty, and uniqueness that each piece of glass holds.

Client Brief

The client brief was created to get a deeper understanding of the client, and used to keep a clear understanding of the task at hand.

User Personas

User personas were developed to identify who I would be designing for. They aimed to capture the essence of the typical visitors of The Corning Museum of Glass.

The Rebrand

The new logo for the Corning Museum of Glass is simple, and flexible. The logo is organic and rounded like the beautiful curves in handblown glass pieces.

Flexible Logo Variations

The ‘O’ in CMOG is able to be interchangeable to reflect different glass shapes and colors. This idea makes the logo customizable to each individual exhibition as well as speaking to the notion that no two glass pieces are exactly the same.
